MINNEAPOLIS – The giant glass doors of the US Bank Stadium opened on Saturday night because it was beautiful outside and the Minnesotans probably would have chosen to kayak or enjoy the last weekend in the cabin if they knew of the starting lineups for the Minnesota Vikings’ second preseason game.

“In the end, we just have to be better,” O’Connell said. “I think in the end we are trying to see who can get off the bench and help us win a football match.”
The Vikings landed a fourth down stop on the 49ers’ first drive, but not before Nate Sudfeld took an impressive shot on a bootleg that was caught right in front of Lewis Cine. Starter Cam Bynum had the evening off. Oh, and yes, Sudfeld is the guy best known for really pissing the Eagles off with Doug Pederson when he played against Jalen Hurts at the end of a 2020 game so they could get a better draft position. With some energy in the building after the fourth down stop, Mond threw an incomplete into the dirt near Kene Nwangwu and then controlled it to the quick running back for a gain of 1 yard on third and 9. Mannion should have seen his pass yards shoot sky high and instead scored a zero in the area score. He threw another incomplete on the third down and the Vikings bet.
The 49ers put the Vikings’ chances of winning the preseason out of reach with a field goal to climb 17-7, but not before round four pick Akayleb Evans punched the ball hard to force a fumble.
Mond remained in the game in the last moments of the fourth quarter. He let loose a deep pass in double cover which was rejected and then whipped a pass over the head of an open Myron Mitchell. When Mond threw a good shot in Mitchell’s direction, he let it slip out of his hands.
Mond ended his miserable evening with another interception on a reckless and inaccurate pass and a smattering of boos could be heard from those still paying attention. It could be argued that it was a step backwards after the fourth quarter shown last week, but only if you thought it meant something.
“The last interception, I think he just lost count of where that stake safety was and tried to press to make that play we were trying to make all night,” O’Connell said.
While there may not have been many highlights or important insights into the things that matter for the 2022 season, the biggest development since the Vikings’ defeat to the 49ers is that this may be the game we remember as the last fleeting moment of discussion on Mond. as a reliable option right now.
