Four weeks before the start of the Crimson Tide season, defensive coordinator Pete Golding spoke to the media to discuss next season. He also faced his February arrest for DUI, a decision he described as “very poor” and “selfish”.

“Whenever you take a leadership role in whatever you do, you have a responsibility,” Golding said, according to Katie Windham of BamaCentral. “Every day we talk to our children about making good decisions, that there are consequences for making bad decisions. And I made a very wrong decision that affected many other people besides myself. And it was selfish. And it opened up a lot of emotions to a lot of people, because people can be influenced by making that decision. “

Golding was arrested in the early hours of February 3 by the Northport Police Department. He joined Nick Saban’s staff in 2018 as Alabama’s co-defensive coordinator. He has also coached the Tide’s in-house linebackers for the past four seasons.

Prior to arriving in Alabama, Golding was an assistant at UTSA and Southern Miss. He played collegially at Delta State in northwestern Mississippi.

Golding said he met with the team the next day to address what happened, pledging to lead by example in the future.

“When I told the team, I met them the next day, I said ‘Look, man, I can tell you anything I want, but I have to show you,'” Golding said. “To provide that leadership and regain the confidence of the team, I made a mistake, I learned from it and move forward.”
