PARKER, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – After being damaged by Hurricane Michael, repairs to Parker Stadium are scheduled to begin Thursday. That was until the mayor called a special meeting to make some final changes.

You can see the equipment ready for the first start, until some residents express their concerns about the new products. Mayor Andrew Kelly called the meeting to hear public input and vote on the new model.

The original design has a 40-space parking lot in the center of the complex between the dog park, bowling, tennis and basketball courts. It was voted to eliminate the parking lot and move the courts to be closer to the dog park. Kelly said he’s fine with whatever the public decides, as long as it leads to a good complex for everyone to enjoy.

“I like to get involved with the people. I think it’s very important that the elected board listens to what the people have to say and consider all the things that can be done, because if a lot of people think progress, then maybe with more brains we will have a better progress. My focus has always been with everything I do, I try to get public opinion,” said Kelly.

Kelly said he also hopes a renovated sports complex will help bring more families and businesses to the area.

“We’re hoping that this will be part of the people who want to come here and be involved in buying new homes and they’re being built every day, they’re bringing their businesses and families to Parker and they’re being built every day. That’s something we’re working on.” since October 10th and we have an opportunity now to change the complexities of the game,” said Kelly.

Kelly said that the group of games will be completed in three phases, where the first phase will be completed on October 1. Phase one will cost more than $650,000. Once each period is over, the city sends a bill to FEMA for payment. The entire public works project for Hurricane Michael recovery will cost approximately $4 million.
