The second phase of the Bryan Mall Hall high-rise renovation was approved by the Board of Trustees during its quarterly meeting on July 22.
Tony Wagner, executive vice president for finance and operations, recommended the university proceed with phase two with some changes due to rising construction prices.
“In view of this hardware store, one of the things we recommend today is that we move this project forward with the Burns Hall project,” Wagner said.
Wagner said they expected costs for the Burns Hall renovation to be around $34 million in October, but that has since escalated significantly to around $52 million. He said the Burns Hall renovation will provide information on existing buildings for other projects.

This comes after the board of trustees approved an expansion plan for new and upgraded lakefront facilities for lacrosse, gymnastics and rowing earlier this year.
The plan includes a new lacrosse field, artificial turf and a 9,000-square-foot operations complex with coach offices, locker rooms and other amenities. The gymnastics team will compete at the Littlejohn Coliseum but will continue with daily operations and train in a 21,000-square-foot home
Athletics Director Graham Neff also drew attention to the 10,000-square-foot athlete recreation center. It is used in both lacrosse and gymnastics programs in addition to the rowing program.
Last year, Clemson announced the addition of women’s lacrosse and women’s gymnastics. The lacrosse team begins its competition next year, while the gymnastics program follows the year after.
The project is scheduled for completion in early 2024.
