Charles Barkley is waiting to receive an offer from LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman about a media role in the controversial golf league, Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reported on Thursday.
This news comes a week after NBA sources shared that he will meet with Norman to learn more about the opportunity. Before that, Barkley joked on The Pat McAfee Show that, “If somebody gave me $200 million, I’d kill a family.”
So if money is a big factor for Barkley when considering the role of LIV Golf, how much money is he making in his current advertising job with Turner Sports?
In Marchand’s report, sources said that Barkley’s contract with Turner Sports still has three years remaining at $30 million. That means about $10 million dollars a year in the network. Along with TNT, Barkley helps host the Inside the NBA show and the annual Match contest.
Although it is not clear whether Turner will let Barkley go on his duties, but if he does a job at LIV the 59-year-old said he would be happy to try to do both jobs. That may not work, however, since many sponsors often cut ties with golfers to the Saudi Arabian sponsor league.
“Absolutely, I’d love to do it all,” Barkley said. “I don’t know how Turner’s supporters feel about it. I know there’s going to be an outcry.”
Barkley is set to play in the LIV Golf pro-am next week at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey. He and Norman met Wednesday night in Atlanta to discuss a media role.
