Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) – The Trinity Spooner didn’t take much to pick up the Javelin. All she had to do was keep an eye on her brother.

“Every time he picked it up, I always went with it after school anyway, so I started doing it for fun too, and then I was pretty good at it and it was some kind of experience between me and my brother,” said Spoon.

Spooner took off with a javelin throw in seventh grade and has since won two state titles in class 3A and finishes first in the Nike Outdoor Nationals Championship, where she dropped a lifetime record of 161 feet 11 inches and achieved all-American status.

“Every time they told me I broke 160, I just put my thumbs up and stared at them, I couldn’t help myself, didn’t know what to do, I was like oh my god I did it,” Spooner said .

South Beauregard’s track and field coach Wade Zito says that’s what he expects of Spooner.

“Incredibly strong, she has a great work ethic,” said Vito. “I mean first of all you can have the tools, but if you don’t put in work it doesn’t matter and she has an extra hour anytime even in other sports where she works out, is there throwing her the Javelin is just always trying to do better.

Spooner caught the attention of Stanford’s PAC 12 tycoon and says he wants to get better from now on while also trying to achieve his big goal in the upcoming senior season.

“I want a state act. I want to see that I want to beat him this year, ”Spooner said.
