The Albany FireWolves annual “PACK GIVE BACK” charity golf outing will be played Monday, September 26, at the Normanside Country Club in Delmar.

The event started with a 9:30 am shotgun starting in a four’s scramble. Sponsor packages and foursomes are available, and include breakfast, greens fees, a basket, drinks on course, cocktail reception and dinner. The results of the golf outing went to the FireWolves Foundation to support philanthropic efforts. The inaugural golf outing last year raised more than $ 15,000.

Skidmore College recently hired Lake George native Peter Fisher as its assistant athletic director.

Fisher recently completed a year as an athletics facility and event supervisor at New York University. Previously, he was assistant director for sports clubs, intramural sports and special events at Adelphi University.

Fisher graduated with a degree in sports management from SUNY Cortland and later earned a master’s degree in the same discipline from Adelphi.

Aislinn Sweeney and Kobe Thomas were selected as UAlbany representatives for the 2021-22 America East Helping Hands team, the conference recently announced.

The Helping Hands team recognizes one man and one woman student-athlete from each of the East American member institutions for their efforts in the area of ​​community service while remaining in a good academic position.

Sweeney is a rising senior goalkeeper on the women’s lacrosse team. From Halfmoon and a Shenendehowa high school graduate, Sweeney appeared in 15 games for the Great Danes in 2022 with an average of 13.16 goals and a save percentage of .437. Sweeney was an all -second team conference choice last season.

Thomas, a rising senior offensive lineman on the football team, appeared in all 11 of UAlbany’s games during the season at center.

SAINT ROSE, SKIDMORE NAME SOFTBALL COACH

Liz Neubinski was named new softball coach Skidmore and P.J. Anadio named Saint Rose’s new softball coach, the new academy announced.

Neubinski recently completed her fourth year as head coach at SUNY Cobleskill. Neubinski led the SUNY Cobleskill 2022 team to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division regular season championship with an 11-1 record. He was named 2022 NAC Coach of the Year. A University of Rochester graduate of the Liberty League, Neubinski trained at the University of Redlands, Wells College and Hamilton College before leading SUNY Cobleskill.

Anadio recently completed his 12th year as head coach at Herkimer. In 2022, Herkimer was 33-9-1 overall, capturing the NJCCA Region 3B Championship and advancing to its 10th NJCCA World Series. He has been named NJCCA Region III Coach of the Year on three occasions, Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year eight times and all of his staff were honored as the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Staff of the Year. Anadio recorded a 437-89-1 overall record, including 156-8 conference marks, and guided the General to the 2013 NJCCA National Championship, along with five national runner-ups.

Roberto Vives, UAlbany’s track and field and cross-country director, has been selected by the Federación de Atletismo de Puerto Rico to be the team leader for the qualifying contingent for the 2022 World Championships, which will be held from July 15-24. at the University of Oregon.

Vives will oversee seven athletes, including former Great Danes star Grace Claxton who earned automatic qualifying bids in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best 55.25 result in Madrid on June 18th. Claxton previously competed at the World Outdoor Championships in 2017 in London.

Vives previously worked with the Puerto Rico National Team at the 2019 Pan American Games and the 2018 World Indoor Championships. In 2015, Vives worked for the U.S. Team in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean Senior Area Championships.

ATHLETES EXTEND LEAGUE TREAK

With a 4-0 victory Wednesday against the Twin Town Devil Cats, Albany Athletics collected their 39th consecutive Twilight League victory.

Kyle Lambert, Bryan Carr, Joe Pokrentowski, Derek Duval and James Rubino combined to strike out 10 batters in a shutout at Edsall E. Walker Field at Bleecker Stadium in Albany. Mark Powell got a double RBI to lead the offense when the Athletics improved to 15-0 in league games and 22-1-2 all this season.

The Devil Cats dropped to 6-10 with a defeat.
