And there may be another name in the mix at last, too, as Cleveland Browns sign caller Baker Mayfield has recently linked with the Seahawks.

Free agent online accessory K.J. Wright, who spent the first 10 seasons of his NFL career with the Seahawks before joining the Las Vegas Raiders last season, does not think it was a very difficult decision. He is confident that Seattle’s best move is moving forward with Smith.
“I’ll tell you, not Baker Mayfield. Not Drew Lock. We don’t play those games. I’m a Geno team all day,” Wright said on “I Am Athlete Tonight” on SiriusXM. “Geno was good. He was a scout team quarterback. The dude has a gun for a hand. It’s intellectual, you know, after those two – minute drills during practice during the week, the man can Just trust him, but trust Geno.
“And what I said is that whoever you decide to be in your starting quarterback, the other guy has to leave. You can’t have both men in the building during the season. Because what’s going to happen? Let’s say a game of three or four of them is not playing as well.What will the fans do? … ‘Enter the backup.’ And so hell with all that, who is the front quarterback, the other guy, you have to trade or cut it. “
A second-round pick by the New York Jets in the 2013 draft, Smith has played for four teams in eight seasons. The 31-year-old played in four games (three starts) in 2021-22 after Wilson suffered a finger injury. In those four appearances, Smith completed 68.4% of his pass for 702 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. He went 1-2 as a starter.
Smith is 13-21 a starter in his career, completing 59% of his pass for 6,917 pass yards, 34 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. He signed a one – year, $ 3.5 million contract this season with Seattle.
Lock was part of the wholesale trade in March that Wilson sent to Denver. The 25-year-old 8-13 is a starter in three NFL seasons. One year left on his rookie market for $ 1.45 million, so it makes sense for the Seahawks to find out what they have in Lock. It has 25 touch passes and 20 interceptions in 21 starters.
Mayfield has spent four years – the whole choice No. 1 in the 2018 NFL Draft – led in Cleveland, where he led the Browns to a 29-30 record (1-1 in the playoffs). In 2020, he led the Browns to their first playoff appearance since 2002 and their first postseason win since the 1994-95 season.
Since joining the league, Mayfield is ranked 11th in the NFL in passing yards (14,125) and 12th for touchdowns (92). He has won more (29) than all other Browns quarter – finals since the 2012 season. Mayfield, 27, is looking for a new home after Cleveland acquired Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans this season, a loss $ 230 million in the process.
