As a three-sport athlete, Pulaski Academy junior quarterback Kel Busby has little time to participate in college camps to assist in his recruitment.

Busby, 6-2, 195 pounds, has a baseball offer from Arkansas as a right-handed pitcher.

He can attend Arkansas football prospect camp last year and show a good arm. He also recorded 4.75 seconds on a 40-yard dash, a 9-foot wide jump and a 30-inch stand.

Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, Baylor, Rice, Pittsburgh, Missouri and Auburn invited him to camp this summer. But because of his schedule, he cannot attend college camp.

“I’ve been told I have the skills and size needed to pursue college athletics,” Busby said. “I got some schools that were interested and wanted me to attend this event, but my sports schedule didn’t allow it. I hate it and I wish I could do it all. I know this is not the current trend in recruiting.

“But, who knows, maybe I can buck that trend and show that multi-sport athletes can be successful without going all combined, camp. I guess time will tell.”

Nephew of former Razorback and All-Southwest Conference safety Bo Busby, Kel is credited by Prep Baseball Report for hitting 87 mph on gun radar as a freshman and 89 mph as a sophomore.

He got a 5-2 record, finished with an ERA of 0.96 and got 65 strikeouts in 43 2/3 rounds as a freshman. Opponent .132 against him.

As a sophomore, he started 12 games and had a 6-2 record with a 1.55 ERA along with 86 strikeouts in 58 innings. He held opponents to a .158 batting average.

Busby, who also plays basketball for Pulaski Academy, is expected to take on as an early quarterback for the Bruins this fall.

“I’m very excited about Kel taking over at quarterback this year,” Bruins coach Anthony Lucas said. “Our hope for him is to stay calm, poised and relaxed. He has all the tools to help us reach our goal to win another championship.

“He’s been in this offense since 5th grade and has been developing over the years. There’s no pressure on him at all. He has a ton of potential to be really good and we’re just gonna take one day and one game at a time. He’s working hard with him.” regardless. That’s what I like about this boy! If we can keep him healthy, he will be one of the top midfielders in the country. “

Busby is interested in three sports at Pulaski Academy.

“I’ve had some rose to tell me about my plans to move forward in the recruiting process,” Busby said. “For now, I plan to continue playing as many high school sports as I can. Because my commitment to the sport is now in the season, it has made it difficult to attend the combines, evaluated camp to play at the next level. Missing training, training or even camp attendance games , combining is not an option for me.

“I commit myself to helping my high school team be the best. That means I will be present and focused with my team. Every season and sport has its own set of skills and I feel it’s part of that helps me be a better athlete.
