This research has shown great promise, in terms of reducing industrial greenhouse gas emissions.

UT researchers are already solving one of the world’s most pressing needs today—a way to reduce or eliminate plastic waste in the environment. For example, research efforts led by Professor Mark Dadmun and Assistant Professor Johnathan Brantley seek to develop new chemical methods to aid the recycling of plastic waste, improve the properties of new products and materials made from mixed streams of plastic waste, and create a circular economy for plastic.
