The Los Alamos Faith And Science Forum will present a lecture at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday: Interactions with the Divine – A Statistical View by Dr. Chick Keller. The free dinner will be served at 6:00 PM in Kelly Hall at 3900 Trinity Dr. Courtesy/LAFSF

News from the Los Alamos Faith and Science Forum:

This lecture asks whether science can explain aspects of interaction with the divine that involve reaction. Does God answer prayers, do miracles still happen, does God allow Satan to possess people, do they have near-death spiritual experiences, or does the brain simply shut down, etc.

To explore these and other questions, we ask whether such events are widespread among religions and cultures, or are they limited to faithful Christians. Comparing statistics with beliefs seems to help believers understand the nature of our relationship with the divine and the spiritual aspects of ourselves.

Biography – Charles F. “Chick” Keller entered a Catholic seminary after high school. After four years in philosophy and theology, he became concerned that theologians did not know enough about what science had shown that might require updating traditional theology. He studied physics and mathematics at Penn State and received a doctorate in astronomy and astrophysics from Indiana University in 1969.

Keller joined Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he worked on a variety of computer-based research, including climate change. He eventually became the highly respected director of the Institute for Geophysics and Planetary Physics at Los Alamos. Chick was one of the founders of PEEC, the Pajarito Environmental Education Center, known locally as the Nature Center.

In 2017, Keller was named one of Los Alamos’ Living Treasures. He has read widely on aspects of science as it affects theological concepts and is a founding member of the Los Alamos Faith and Science Forum, where he has given many talks over the years on topics where faith and science intersect. She is a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by a free dinner at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, in Kelly Hall at 3900 Trinity Dr. or via Zoom at https://tinyurl.com/GodCosmos
