Common Sense New York’s political action committee received $ 250,000 from developer Joseph Cayre, $ 100,000 from United American Land, $ 50,000 from Muss Development and $ 50,000 from Lisa Blau, wife of Associated Companies CEO Jeff Blau, according to 2022 files with the state board of Elections. The PAC spent more than $ 120,000 on emails and retailing efforts for Assemblyman Nikki Lucas, whose challenger, Keron Alleyne, was backed by the DSA, WFP and Deputy Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The group, linked to political consultant Jeffrey Leb, also spent $ 22,000 for retail efforts for Assemblyman Erik Dilan and more than $ 17,000 for mailings against his opponent, Samy Nemir Olivares, who was supported by both the DSA and WFP.
One such email shows that Olivares was arrested at a rally in support of a good cause eviction, accompanied by the capital message: “WARNING! SAMY NEMIR OLIVARES IS SUPPORTED BY SOCIALISMS THAT THREATEN PUBLIC SECURITY, DESTROY OUR COMMUNITIES AND RAISE TAXATION. ”
The winner of this northern Brooklyn race remains unclear. The initial election night count showed Dila with a slight lead.
Another PAC linked to Leb, New York Voters, received $ 250,000 from Gary Barnett’s Extell Development. A unit linked to Terra Holdings, the roofing company of Brown Harris Stevens and Halstead, donated $ 100,000 and developer Silverstein Properties donated $ 50,000.
The group has spent more than $ 83,000 for mailings against Socialist candidate Sarahana Shrestha, who appears to have expelled Assemblyman Kevin Cahill from his seat in the Hudson Valley. It has spent an additional $ 52,000 for emails against Vanessa Agudelo, who is also backed by the Democratic Socialists of America and is running for Assembly in Westchester County.

Governor’s race
As expected, Governor Kathy Hochul defeated Public Advocate Jumaane Willams and Rep. Tom Suozzi for the Democratic nomination. Long Island Rep. Lee Zeldin easily secured the Republican nomination. Zeldin criticized Hochul’s efforts on crime, and vowed to repeal a non-custodial bail and the Less is More Act, a 2021 measure that, among other things, reduces penalties for certain probation violations.
If Zeldin were to win in November, he could be expected to be at least as supportive of industrial interests as Hochul, although a return to a bipartisan government in Albany would add uncertainty to the state’s legislative landscape.

Common Sense New York spent more than $ 38,000 for mailings against tenant activist Delsenia Glover, who had the support of Ocasio-Cortez and the WFP.
