If you’re a Fitbit Versa, Versa 2, or Ionic owner, soon you won’t be able to transfer music from your computer to your Fitbit device. In a support page seen by 9to5Google, Fitbit said it will discontinue its Fitbit Connect app on October 13, leaving you with only two ways to download music to your device: a paid subscription to either Pandora or Deezer.

Fitbit Connect is a companion app for Mac and Windows computers that allows you to sync fitness data from devices and transfer music to legacy Fitbit devices. Fitbit has gradually phased out the software program in favor of its mobile app, as it no longer recommends users to download it through its settings page.

But without the link, there’s no way to download music to your Fitbit without paying a subscription to either Pandora or Deezer. On its support page, Fitbit says “You may be eligible for a 90-day trial” of each service, which will run you $9.99/month for Deezer Premium or $4.99/month for Pandora Plus when the trial ends.

This change does not affect the new Fitbit models, however, as they do not come with the option to transfer files between your PC and the Fitbit device (devices such as the Versa 3 and Sense already only allow you to download music from Deezer or Pandora ). If you have an older Fitbit that is capable of storing music, you will still have access to the music files you have on your current Fitbit device – you will not be able to download any additional songs without Pandora or Deezer bypassing them. at the end of October.

Many users use their Fitbit device to control the music they are playing on their smartphone, whether they are streaming music from Spotify or listening to songs already downloaded to their phone. But still, having local music files is handy if you’re listening to music online or want to use your Fitbit without your smartphone.

Although Fitbit has not explained why it is getting rid of Fitbit Connect, it is possible that there is not enough demand to continue the service. Google (Fitbit’s parent company) did not immediately respond to The Verge’s request for comment.
