Ne-Yo believes “heartache makes great song lyrics”.
The 42 -year -old singer admits that RnB music always “feels best” for him, and he still likes to be able to express himself through music.
The star at the top of the chart – whose real name is Shaffer Smith – shared: “RnB always means the most sense to me.
“It’s always been a genre of music that I can really express that level of emotion.”
Ne-Yo admits that love songs, in particular, really stir her emotions.
He told The Independent: “It’s always been an unpleasant truth that heartache makes song lyrics good.”
Ne-Yo is proposing to divorce his wife, Crystal Renay, in 2020. But the COVID-19 pandemic proved to be a turning point for his relationship and they finally tried to re-romance, after bearing together in the midst of a health crisis.
The singer – who got Roman, four, and Shaffer, six, and Crystal, as well as Mason, ten, and Madilyn, 11, and actress Monyetta Shaw – said: “I’m really bad about settling things.
“But we’ve gotten better at finding a way to a resolution sooner, otherwise just stay crazy for however long. It’s not healthy for you, or your marriage.”
Ne-Yo touches on their struggles on one of the songs on his new album.
In ‘Don’t Love Me’, he urges Crystal to reconsider romance and he also admits to making mistakes during the relationship.
The award -winning star – whose new album is called ‘Self -Explanatory’ – shared: “I asked him if he was okay and I put it on the album, because it’s a personal note.”
