For more than three decades now, Zydeco Flames has brought its brand of cheering, juke joint shaking, Cajun Creole musical gumbo to scenes around the Bay Area and beyond.
While their concerts are always guaranteed to be a great time, the reason behind the group’s show in Vacaville on Sunday is a very serious one – a fundraiser for victims of violence in favor of Youth Alive, a group whose mission is to prevent violence and create young leaders .
Half of the proceeds from the evening will go directly to victims of violence, the other half will go to producing a dedicated music video with a song written by Zydeco Flames bassist Timm Walker to deal with an unexpected loss of life.
“The first idea started with me behind the song I had written for my friend who died. I got a lot of good feedback on how the song touched the lives of people who had other losses. “People told me it would be good for grieving people of all kinds, so to speak,” Walker said.
“Anyone who may be grieving a sudden loss can benefit from this song because it was very useful to me and my grieving process.”
If You Go: Zydeco Flames plays at 4pm on Sunday, July 17 at the Journey Downtown Theater, 308 Main St., Vacaville. Tickets cost $ 35- $ 50. For more information, visit ftpresents.com.
