It’s seven o’clock sharp, but he’s not in a convertible. Instead, Usher is at the combination ice rink and front yard barbecue in the music video for City Girls’ new single “Good Love,” out July 1. It’s a second-round “Twerkulator,” if you will, a song that epitomizes shaking your ass in the summer and sipping booze. Directed by Daps, the video drips with a 90s Technicolor twist, bouncing between the two functions as if the party at Atlanta’s famous Cascade ice rink and the barbecue are going on in a simultaneous burst of joy. They play spades, twerks and line dances, as is their summer right and privilege. Sitting in a claw machine wearing teddy bear-shaped boots and Telfar bags with a set of gummy bear-shaped studs, the City Girls deliver fun bars to the sampled beat of Lathun. Yung Miami shows her “coochie print/crop top, no bra bitch,” while Caresha aka JT is “so cunty” and “too bad.” I know it’s true! Usher doesn’t miss out with his sweet voice, in the second reminder of the week that he’s a singer and all the other R&B boys need to step up or Ursher Baby will have to carry the genre on his back. He even manages to slip in an improvised “city boy” at the end of the piece. This cute bop arrived just in time for this weekend’s holiday functions.
