The Faculty of Chemistry (UNC) acquired high-tech equipment for the practical activities of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

An investment of around $80,000 in July 2022 will also go to teaching, research, expression and extension. Another game will be added in the coming months with more teams.

The new equipment is already available in laboratory 019 of the FCQ (UNC). Among them are a Shimadzu brand HPLC (High Resolution Liquid Chromatograph) and a Perkin Elmer Spectrofluorimeter. Meanwhile, the UV (thermoelectron) spectrophotometer can be used in various places. This also includes the acquisition of more than 100 feces for laboratories.

“A significant investment was involved in this high-end infrastructure equipment. All this investment was possible thanks to the family of the biochemist Josefina Carvaca Trujillo, who donated part of her inheritance to the FCQ (UNC) in 2021. Dr. Caravaca Trujillo graduated from this faculty in 1950 and later developed a successful career in United States, serving as director of the Cardiovascular Laboratory at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation (La Jolla, San Diego).

The donation, which amounted to about $114,000, was made months ago through the family’s lawyer. The fate of the fund was discussed by the Board of Directors of the FCQ (UNC), which, in compliance with Res HCD 26/2021, welcomed Dr. Read also : US dollars will now go further to the European vacation.
