SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) — There are 2,237 new cases of COVID-19, including six deaths, listed today on the Louisiana Department of Health website.
The Rev. Dr. Robert C. Hudson, pastor of Paradise Baptist Church in Shreveport, is urging people to consider getting their vaccinations before returning to church.
“As people were returning, I requested that they be vaccinated. You don’t tell people they need to understand,” said Reverend Dr. Hudson. “Every now and then, from the pulpit, I remind them that if they haven’t gone, they need to consider vaccination and booster.”
In the church of Rev. Dr. Hudson, seating is not restricted, but there are seats that are five feet apart for people who are taking extra precautions. And all communion, tithes and offerings are made before the parishioners take their seats.
“In the end, everyone already has their glasses in place and so we don’t have a moment where we interrupt the flow of worship and people start marching,” said Rev. Dr. Hudson.
The church also recommends that everyone still wear masks.
“I think continuing to mask is very important because really COVID is still out there. We may not talk about this alone, but COVID is still here,” said Tara Daniel, a member of the Paradise Baptist choir.
Daniel said he got COVID-19 despite taking precautions, but he still chooses to follow protocol and so does his children; she chose to get vaccinated.
“I think it’s really important to make people aware of how important it is to get the vaccine, and I hope that one day we can all get back together as a whole and not just you know what part of us stays at home watching. on TV,” continued Daniel.
Many parishes are considered high risk; as of July 1, Caddo has had nearly 4,600 reinfections since the start of the pandemic.
Karlos Ferbos is among the church members who haven’t caught the virus: “Even though I haven’t personally received COVID yet, I still take all the necessary precautions to stay safe because the age group here, as you can see, lives from young to young. old”.
