On the 29th of July, the delegation of the Ministry of Infrastructure together with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, ambassadors of the G7, Turkey, and representatives of the UN inspected the process of loading the first ships within the framework of the ‘grain initiative’ signed in Istanbul.
In particular, 17 ships have already been loaded in the ports of Odessa and Chornomorsk, 10 of which are ready to depart. This may interest you : Ukrainian tapestry show opens at Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan.
For the first time since February 24, work resumed at Ukrainian seaports. The ships, which have been loaded with grain over the winter, are ready to depart once our partners, the UN and Turkey agree on a “green corridor” towards the Bosphorus Strait.
As President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized, Ukraine did everything it could to start exporting grain as soon as possible. Ukraine remains the guarantor of global food security.
I express my gratitude to the ambassadors of the G7, the European Delegation, Turkey and the UN for their joint work, which I hope will bring the first practical results in the coming days. Their presence today in Odessa gives hope to farmers, shippers and the entire Ukrainian maritime industry.
Grain exports will begin with the shipment of several ships that were loaded but could not leave the port due to the start of a full-scale Russian invasion.
Furthermore, as part of the visit, the Minister held a meeting with the Maritime Administration of Ukraine. The focus is on new steps in the development of port infrastructure and the expansion of cargo handling in the Danube port cluster.
It is worth remembering that on July 22, in Istanbul, at the proposal of the United Nations, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, signed the Initiative for the safe transport of grains and food products from the Ukrainian ports of Odessa, Chornomorsk and Yuzhny.
