DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) – Crystal Brown, president of the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, said Decatur’s growing population is attracting more local businesses.

“We have so many wonderful things happening in the area that make it the perfect place for new businesses to locate,” said Brown. “The growth that we’ve experienced with the census, the 2020 census, has been really instrumental in helping us recruit new businesses as well.”

Growth is what led Judah Frank and his wife Julia to open Beam Roast Coffee Shop two weeks ago.

“It was always our dream to open a coffee shop, but we figured that wouldn’t happen until we retired,” Frank said.

They said that they knew that starting a small business would be a risk, but they approached this business responsibly.

“We both have other jobs, and right now we’re only open in the mornings, but as we move forward, we want to be able to expand,” Frank said.

Frank and his wife believe that opening the store in Decatur was the right choice.
