MILLBURY — The Small Business Recovery Grant Program continues to receive award applications and grants.

City Manager Sean Hendricks presented the update at a Selection Board meeting on July 12; a dozen local business owners, including Christopher’s Ice Cream and Felter’s Mill, have received grants so far.

“I got a lot of hugs that day,” Hendricks said as he handed over the check.

In addition, three more grant applications have been approved, and eight more businesses have applied for grants.

Hendricks said that eligibility had expanded to include local businesses that were opening, or were about to open, when the coronavirus pandemic hit in March 2020.

About $300,000 has been awarded so far; the funding comes from the American Recovery Plan Act.

… A construction schedule for the Fire Headquarters building is underway, Hendricks said. Some work has been done on the old McGrath School site by National Grid. While some trees had been cut down, several half a dozen trees had been moved to the City Hall.

… Expect some improvements in Woolie World this fall. Hendricks said plans were in the early stages of updating the excavation space, and the dirt area at the entrance would be paved and lined to create a “real” parking lot.
