Sweet Magnolias is one of Netflix’s best feel-good shows, so confirmation that we’ll be returning to Serenity for a third season comes as no surprise. Here’s everything we know so far about Sweet Magnolias season 3, which is currently filming in Georgia. Here’s what we can expect from Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias and how Season 2 of the show is performing on Netflix.
The series is based on the Sherryl Woods series of novels, and while there are some variances between the story told in the book and what we’ve seen on screen, there’s a lot more source material for the show to draw from. So let’s examine the chances of Sweet Magnolias Season 3 and what we can expect.
First debuting in May 2020, we finally got a second season of Sweet Magnolias just a few months ago two years after its first premiere.
What to expect from Sweet Magnolias season 3

Season 2 ended with Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue mourning the loss of Miss Frances (Cindy Karr). After the funeral, we see an unexpected event involving a proposal and a confrontation at the restaurant, resulting in Cal being taken away in handcuffs. We also know someone returned after the main trio saw footage of tires being slashed on Sullivan’s van.
Helen (played by Heather Headley) had a rough ride in Season 2 with several traumatic events, but the season ended with Ryan proposing to her. Season 3 will likely start with the choice she makes.
In an interview with TVLine, Sheryl J. Anderson answered many of the burning questions following the conclusion of season two.
When asked who punctured Dana Sue’s tire, she said, “I’ll just say she has a history with our ladies and some other people in town,” adding, “She’s been away for a while, but she came back with an agenda. She came home to settle some scores.”
Anderson also said that we could “possibly” see Victoria’s return, and hinted that we could see other “troublemakers” return in the future as well. Dana Sue’s relationship was also addressed, with Anderson saying the three-way dance is likely to remain complicated.
Speaking to Glamour, Anderson said there isn’t a single question in Season 3 compared to Season 2, except for the big one, which revolves around renewal, saying, “I hope that’s the main question that everyone has at the end of Season 2 , reads: Are they getting a third season?”
Alongside the renewal confirmation, it was announced that stars JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley would all be reprising their roles.
While we await more Season 3 news, Netflix is still running its book club hosted by Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black) and Sweet Magnolias was the book in focus for February 2022.
