Netflix’s adaptation of Resident Evil, staying true to the games and weaving an eight-episode tale that cuts between the outbreak of a world-ending virus and a zombie-ridden near future, is filled with shocking moments and plot twists. abundance.

But we are left with so many questions.

1. What happened to poor old Bert?

Coming to the end of the series (and with Netflix yet to renew the series for a second season), the fates of several characters are at stake, some reasons are still unclear and gaps remain between the two different timelines. We’ve shared some of the biggest questions that left us at the end of Resident Evil with the hope that everything will become clear if season 2 is approved…

2. What was the deal with the original Albert Wesker?

When adult Jade Wesker (Ella Balinska) is reunited with her sister Billie (Adeline Rudolph), she tells her about the death of her father Albert (Lance Reddick). “He died asking for you”, are his exact words. But then in the final episode of the series, we actually see Albert die in the previous timeline when they’re both still teenagers, with the clone of Albert Bert (also Reddick) being the one who helps the girls escape Umbrella HQ. So, presumably, Jade and Billie grew up calling Bert their father, but what happened to the poor guy? Did he at least get to enjoy some freedom for a while? And what was it that finally killed him? We’re going to need those details.

3. How did child Billie turn into adult Billie?

We don’t have much information about the original Albert Wesker, other than the fact that he a) wasn’t that cool, and b) seemed to dress like an extra in The Matrix. He’s an intriguing villain, and I’d love to see any future Resident Evil series delve a little into his history.

The season finale makes it clear that adult Billie isn’t all that cool. But in the previous timeline, when we see young Billie (Siena Agudong) and young Jade (Tamara Smart), that transformation hasn’t happened yet. Sure, we get a hint of future friction between the sisters in Jade’s slightly cold reaction to Billie as they wait for Bert to show up (Billie just bit her boyfriend, to be fair), but at this point they’re still very much on the same side.

4. And what exactly does adult Billie want?

So what has happened in the past to turn gentle and determined Billie into the near-sociopath she appears to be as an adult? Part of that seems to be the virus inside her (“He took all my shit,” she tells Jade), and part of that is probably a response to Jade’s selfishness, but there certainly must have been some other events that poked her. In the final scenes of Season 1, Billie and her Umbrella soldiers leave Jade badly injured and fly in a helicopter, taking Jade’s daughter Bea (Ella Zieglmeier) with them. So has this been Billie’s endgame all along? And why does she want to kidnap Bea so badly?

Well, while we’re not sure, we can make a pretty good guess at this one. When Jade’s partner Arjun (Ahad Raza Mir) tells Jade about Bea’s progress, not to mention when Bea does that impressive piano solo on the boat, it’s pretty clear she’s talented. It seems likely that Billie wants to see exactly how talented she is, and possibly monitor her in the same way that Albert monitored her and Jade when they were kids.

5. Will Jade Wesker change her ways?

But still: what is her ultimate goal in all of this? If she’s simply trying to find something that can help fight the T-Virus, why not work with Jade and the academics rather than against them?

She may be the heroine of the series, but Jade Wesker is also a hopeless liability, especially when it comes to bringing bloodthirsty zombies aboard boats full of peaceful academics. She’s confronted with this beauty head-on in the series finale by her sister – but where does her character go from here? Will she finally put her family first and focus on getting her daughter back? Or will she continue to be sidetracked by her own research and continue to make dangerous decisions in an attempt to unravel the mysteries of the T-Virus?

We hope it’s the first, but somehow we think it might end up being the second.
