Girls just want to have fun, but grown women with story skills? They want to host television dramas distributed by popular streamers. Expressing imagination: Ms. Cyndi Lauper, who has signed on for a recurring guest spot on the upcoming Prime Video series Horror Of Dolores Roach.
The series, backed by Aaron Mark and Dara Resnik, first received an eight-episode order from Amazon in February, but the streamer has yet to set an official release date. The show is based on the Gimlet podcast of the same name, which Mark also wrote and directed.
However, The Horror of Dolores Roach follows the famous character (played by Justina Machado), an ex-convict who returns to her old home in Washington Heights 16 years after she began her sentence. The $200 to her name and the clothes on her back aren’t enough, however, for Dolores to find financial freedom in the highly respected neighborhood. Strapped for cash, she turns to an ex-smoker friend, Luis (Alejandro Hernandez), who offers her a job massaging the bottom of his empanada joint. Soon “Magic Hands Dolores” has a successful career and a loyal following – but her increasingly dependent relationship with Luis eventually becomes dangerous, and Dolores must fight tooth and nail to survive. Kita Updike, K. Todd Freeman, Marc Maron, Jean Yoon, Judy Reyes, and Jeffery Self round out the cast of roles to be announced.
Lauper joins the cast as a colorful character: Ruthie, a “Broadway stage charmer who moonlights as a private investigator.” Ruthie is reportedly at the root of a good portion of Dolores’ frustrations, and the idea of Lauper as a doe-eyed bad guy feels like a pretty off-screen version of the bubbly, something. interesting catch. Although the role didn’t bring Lauper close to an EGOT, this has nothing to do with her versatility and everything to do with the fact that she’s an Emmy (and Tony, and Grammy). Get this woman some Oscar bait, stat!
