Netflix is home to some of TV’s biggest shows that have run for multiple seasons (or are guaranteed to run), but the streamer has also built a reputation for canceling shows after just one episode. Now that the writers of “Stranger Things” have announced that they will be working on a fifth and final season, there has been news that another show has been axed this summer after eight episodes.

Stranger Things Is Getting Ready For Season 5

The fourth season of Stranger Things released the second of its two volumes in early July, leaving fans confused about the fate of not only Hawkins as a whole, but also Max as a character. There’s no confirmation on when Season 5 will arrive to wrap up the Stranger Things story (and there’s no guarantee that the wait will be shorter than between Seasons 3 and 4), but the writers did have some encouraging news:

The writers are officially back to work! It’s been just over a month since fans got to see the twists and tragedies of the Season 4 finale, the first in Stranger Things history to be completely written before filming began due to pandemic delays. It’s not yet clear if the Duffer brothers want to do the same in season 5, but since these episodes will be the last, it seems like the right time to plan everything in advance.

While Stranger Things is already guaranteed another season and at least one spinoff (along with Stephen King’s own spinoff idea), many other shows haven’t been so lucky.

Netflix Cancelled First Kill After One Season

First Kill debuted on Netflix in June as a fresh take on the vampire TV show, but Deadline reports that the streamer has canceled the series less than two months after its premiere. It was based on the best-selling author V.E. in a short story. Schwab and quickly built a following, even though there were significant differences between the show and the story.

Fans have been campaigning for more, with “First Kill Season 2” trending on Twitter just hours before the cancellation was confirmed. The end of season 1 definitely left some stories open enough for season two to pick up where it left off; unfortunately it won’t happen. See the article : Prime Video additions: New TV and movies arriving July 4-10. The teen vampire drama is far from the only Netflix show to be canceled after one season. In fact, there’s enough of an early cancellation trend that it can be risky for Netflix subscribers to fall in love with a new show.

Netflix actually cancels so many freshman shows (and often without any fanfare) that people always realize it later. First Kill has gone the way of shows like Cowboy BeBop, Julie and the Phantoms, and Archive 81. Few that don’t fall under the umbrella of Stranger Things or Bridgerton feel completely safe these days.

Fans can always hope that a bigger campaign will lead to a rescue and renewal, but these campaigns are rarely successful. For now, they can at least rewatch the entire first season available on Netflix and check out our 2022 TV premiere schedule for some other viewing options.
