All things considered, 2022 has proved one of the toughest years in recent memory for Netflix, which has seen a net loss of subscribers for two straight quarters. It’s also trying to roll out an ad-supported subscription tier to generate more revenue. It cracks down on password sharing. And it’s still putting out a new Netflix release every week, of course, in an effort to keep its streamer subscribers happy and streaming.
Speaking of that new content: We keep track of all the additions and departures from Netflix’s release lineup on a weekly and monthly basis. However, each weekend, we’d also like to offer a more curated look at the five biggest and most exciting titles currently on the platform over the coming week.

“There is another world waiting for us all while we close our eyes and sleep,” explains the streamer. “The place called Dreaming, where The Sandman, the Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), shapes all of our deepest fears and fantasies.
“But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held captive for a century, her absence triggers a series of events that will change the dream world and the waking world forever. Carter + more Netflix releases
Moving on, let’s talk next about Korean titles. The streamer certainly hasn’t overlooked many K-drama fans this year — far from it. New Netflix major releases along these lines include the Korean remake of global hit streamer Money Heist. As well as the heartwarming new drama, Amazing Lawyer Woo, it’s one of the most-watched Netflix titles right now.
Next? Carter’s action-packed Korean language film, which also arrives on August 5, has a story reminiscent of the first Bourne film. On the same subject : Netflix needs Help with Ads. It is also the first major Korean-language Netflix film release set for the latter half of the year.
Basically, Carter follows an agent who wakes up in a motel room with no memory of how he got there. His memory, in fact, had been erased. A voice in his head sends him out on a mission, warning that his life is in danger otherwise.
“I tried to make the impossible happen because I wanted everything to be real action with no computer generated effects,” said director Jung Byung-gil, in an interview that was included with Netflix press material for Carter.

The Town: This Ben Affleck-led heist drama is a classic. Affleck’s character is part of a gang of thieves, he falls in love with the manager of the bank they rob — and it’s also one of Pete Postlethwaite’s last film roles. Release date: August 1st.
Clusterf**k: Woodstock ’99: It was supposed to be a revival of the iconic 1969 music festival. Instead, the 1999 version of Woodstock became, as the title of this Netflix documentary suggests, into one giant f**k cluster. Release date: August 3rd.
One more new Netflix release to check out
Finally, one of Netflix’s most popular German-language releases—How To Sell Drugs Online (Quickly)—gets a prequel.
The character Buba, the petty villain we last saw in a previous release, is the focus of the Netflix original of the same name (which will premiere on August 3). “Buba’s real name is Jakob Otto,” explains Netflix. “And Jakob Otto had a problem… whenever things went too well for him, he knew something bad was going to happen.
“Since the death of his parents in a tragic accident, Jakob sincerely believes that any good feelings in his life need to be balanced. Together with his brother Dante, he has developed a system to make his daily life as enjoyable as possible. For over thirty years, it seemed to be working so well, until something happened that no one could see coming.
What was that unexpected event?
The clumsy villain has no idea that he’s finally fallen in love.
From producers Philipp Kassbohrer and Matthias Murmann, “Buba is a real delight. Even when we were filming How to Sell Drugs Online (Quickly) we felt that there was more to these characters and the story wasn’t over yet. We sort of put the carriage in front of the horse. Bjarne Mädel and Arne Feldhusen are a couple made in heaven too. We hope that more viewers will become true Buba fans.”
