With Stephen Colbert leading the festivities, 6,500 fans at Comic-Con 2022 were treated to a 90-minute showcase featuring creative and ensemble talent from the highly anticipated series inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium; the $400+ million series hits the streamer in September.

Prime Video has transformed San Diego into Middle-Earth to showcase its upcoming series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Today at Comic-Con 2022, fans were treated to a panel featuring series creators and 21 members of the show’s ensemble cast, moderated by surprise guest The Late Show host and Tolkien superfan Stephen Colbert. He joined series showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producer Lindsey Weber, and cast members to unveil a special Comic-Con debut trailer and a sneak peek of several scenes from the series. The event took place in front of a happy crowd of 6,500 fans.

During the 90-minute showcase, panelists and fans interacted. Discussions included the likes of J.R.R. Tolkien’s incredible Legendarium, the process of bringing the author’s fabled Second Age to life, from the new and legendary characters of the series to the realms of Middle-earth, including the island of Numenor, which has never been seen on screen before was portrayed.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on video in more than 240 countries and territories on Friday, September 2, with new episodes available weekly.

The series takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the thinnest of threads, and the greatest evil ever to escape Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover the entire world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil in Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elven capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these realms and characters will carve out legacies that will live long after. they are gone.

The series is created by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne led & Patrick McKay. They are joined by executive producers Lindsey Weber; Callum Greene; J. A. Bayona; Belén Atienza; Justin Doble; Jason Cahill; Jennifer Hutchison; Bruce Richmond; and Sharon Tal Yguado; and producers Ron Ames and Christopher Newman. Wayne Che Yip is co-executive producer and director, along with Bayona and Charlotte Brändström.

VFX for The Rings of Power are produced by Wētā FX. Both Jason Smith and Tim Capper serve as senior visual effects supervisor and visual effects supervisor, respectively.
