The Wheel of Time premiered with its first season on Prime Video in 2021. The adaptation of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series recently wrapped filming for its second season. With the first season anticipating the arrival of the Seanchan, the challenges for Moiraine and Rand coming to terms with being the Dragon Reborn, we have high hopes for the second season … and beyond. On Thursday afternoon at San Diego Comic-Con, Prime Video revealed its revamped The Wheel of Time for a third season during the The Wheel of Time: Origins panel. Showrunner Rafe Judkins surprised audiences with the announcement.

Judkins said in a previous Comic-Con panel that he charted eight seasons of the series. This makes me optimistic about a complete adaptation. It would be a shame to stop Jordan’s story before it ends. After all, this is a complete fantasy series (thanks to Brandon Sanderson who picked it up after Jordan’s death). We have a lot more to explore.

In a press release, Judkins said, “I am so excited that we will be doing a third season of The Wheel of Time. The Shadow Rising has always been my favorite book in the series, so being able to bring it to television and present to a new one. I publish the stories that made me fall in love with these books in the first place is such an honor, and something I’ve been working on for the first time since I first launched the show years and years ago.

As for when the third season of The Wheel of Time will air, well, we don’t know yet. We don’t even have a release date for the second season. We hope to see the second season in 2023, so maybe 2024 or 2025 for the third season.
