Changes are planned for the landmark show at West Newton Cinema. The owners of the theater want to turn it into a non -slave venue that may support community screenings and independent films.
As a step towards this goal, cinema owner David Bramante has reached an agreement to sell the cinema, located at 1296 Washington St., to Newton-based Mark Development. According to a statement published on Village 14, the Bramante family will continue to operate the cinema for the next 18 months or more while finding a new division to run the work.
Bramante wrote, “While this may be the right time for our family to stop using the cinema, our priority is to find ways to establish the long -term status of West Newton Cinema as a gathering place, awards for art, and resources in our community. ”
Founded in 1937, Bramantes has operated West Newton Cinema for the past 44 years, and during this time, David Bramante called working with independent filmmakers the most exciting.
“Last year, I think I’ve done the first seven or eight works of independent filmmakers and it’s really fun and satisfying to work with people like that, see their products on the show. the screen for the first time, and it’s a very interesting thing., ”he told WBUR.
