Aside from releasing Coming 2 America during the Covid pandemic to mixed reviews, Eddie Murphy hasn’t been associated with many upcoming projects since he dropped out of the Twins sequel. However, it looks like as part of his recent three-movie deal with Amazon Prime Video, the comedian and actor will star in a holiday movie called Candy Cane Lane.

Coming 2 America was picked up by Amazon from Paramount thanks to the pandemic, and despite a lack of downright positive reviews, the film took top opening streaming weekend of the year and also received an Academy Award nomination. Now Murphy will direct Candy Cane Lane, a film written by Kelly Younger based on her vacation experiences as a child, and the film will reunite Murphy with director Reginald Hudlin for the first time in 30 years since they worked together on Boomerang.

According to Screen Rant, the pair discussed the project in a statement from Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke and Hudlin, and Hudlin couldn’t hide his excitement at working with Murphy again after so long. They said:

HUDLIN: “The holidays are my favorite time of year – just ask my family about my nine-hour Christmas playlist. I’m excited to be working with Eddie Murphy, Brian Grazer and Amazon again.”

SALKE: “As we know first hand with our hit Coming 2 America, Eddie is one who brings together a global audience, and we can’t wait to make it happen again. We look forward to seeing the multi-talented Reggie Hudlin take the helm to bring this future holiday classic to life!”

Beverly Hills Cop 4 Recently Moved Forward At Netflix

As one of Eddie Murphy’s most popular franchises, Beverly Hills Cop 4 has been in development for quite some time, and having previously been directed by Ms. Marvel’s duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah for Netflix, the pair abandoned the film in favor of the Warner. Brittle. Batgirl movie. In April, it was announced that Mark Molloy would step in and take up the directorial duties on the film as his first major feature after concentrating mainly on short films.

Eddie Murphy has struggled to impress for the past decade, with a string of poorly received films largely flopping upon their release. While Coming 2 America had the allure of nostalgia, it was largely panned as a rerun of the original film, with The Guardian going so far as to say that “the film is as tired and middle-aged as Akeem himself.”

Whether the same kind of fate will befall the late fourth installment of the Beverly Hills Cop series we’ll only find out when the film makes it onto the screens, but with 80s and 90s nostalgia at an all-time high, there will be hopes that the film manages to ride the wave and avoid too many scathing critics. With Murphy previously saying that the sequel has taken so long because he’s been waiting for the right script, fans will be looking to learn more about it as well as the star’s new Amazon offering.
