Arts Advocates is launching a new series of conversations starting July 21 with members of the “Petticoat Painters” at Arts Advocates Gallery, The Crossings at Siesta Key Mall, 3501 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.

“Art Talk with the Petticoat Painters” (11 am to 12:30 pm) features artists Lucy Barber, Susan J. Klein, Judy Lyons Schneider, Jana Millstone and Diane Schmidt. The Petticoat Painters are one of the oldest art groups on continuous display in the United States.

Petticoat Painters were formed in 1953 to showcase the talents of female artists at a time when women had difficulty finding places to exhibit their work.

“A Week in the Life of a Curator” is scheduled for August 18 (4-8 pm) with curator Mark Ormond. With more than 25 years of experience in the art world, Ormond has organized dozens of museum exhibitions and has written, edited and contributed to numerous brochures, catalogs and publications about artists. During his 10-year association with the Ringling Museum of Art, he was Senior Curator and Deputy Director of Collections and Programs.

Arts Advocates was founded in 1969 as The Fine Arts Society of Sarasota with a mission to inspire creativity, advanced education and connect the community to the arts. The cost for each “Art Talk” is $10 for Arts Advocates members, $12 for non-members. For more information and registration, visit ArtsAdvocates.org.
