LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Civic Theater of Greater Lafayette recently completed the installation of its new intercom system, which will benefit both theater employees and patrons.

North Central Health Services, through the Arts Federation, awarded a grant of $33,631.87 to the Civic Theater in October 2021. These funds installed a new intercom system. Installation on the system was recently completed.

“The process took longer than expected due to delays in the delivery of some equipment,” said Raquel Lopez, artistic director of the Civic Theatre. “This system will benefit both staff and patrons in a number of ways. In live theater there are many different jobs that go on at once to make a show happen. It is critical that the lines of communication between all departments before, during and after shows are clear.”

The advantages of the new system will go beyond routine communication, because it can and will be crucial in communication in case of any emergency situations.

“We now have the ability to stream music and announcements into our lobby, including restrooms,” Lopez said. “This is crucial in an emergency.”

The Civic Theater applied for a 2021 NCHS capital grant and was awarded the full amount requested. These funds always went towards the installation of a new intercom system.

“The NCHS capital grants have been a wonderful resource for the Civic Theatre,” Lopez said. “We have been proud recipients of multiple grants from them over the years.”
