HOWLAND – Andy Bednar and Baker, Bednar, Snyder & amp; Associates, Inc., a building and engineering company, said the refurbished and state-of-the-art sports facility set up for Howland Local Schools is expected to be “timely.
“The players’ hall meets the needs of the players. Those types of interests have not changed over the years, “Bednar said.
Bednar presented a planned plan of a multi-purpose hall with an 800-seat hall to the Howland Board of Education at its regular meeting Thursday evening.
The school has several years left to build a beautiful and athletic center – meaning that China’s plans could change – but they have been discussing the idea for some time.
Superintendent Kevin Spicher said the district “focused” more on priorities than their report before focusing on the area of expertise.
The building described by Bednar would be connected to a high school gymnasium and would be located in an area located between the back of the building and the bus garage. It could find school parking lots with separate doors from the gym and could be closed outside another building and gate when appropriate.
The house would have a comfortable living area and a high-rise apartment with six-inch stairs, as well as plenty of wheelchair access, Bednar said.
The raised platform will have a 10-foot push and stairs and lift access from the audience area, which would be helpful for events such as prize games, Bednar said. The stage would also be connected to the backyard, dressing rooms and storage, all of which would be on the same level so that players would not have to walk the steps.
The stage will have a full fly area for lifting and lowering as well as cataracts and grid lighting. The back reception area can double as a rest area.
The facility would also have a spacious lounge area where small activities or pictures of students could be displayed. A small outdoor step can be used more by students to do unexpected or unplanned activities.
Existing exterior building systems include fabrics, or aluminum composite material, and bricks and glass. Bednar talked about creating a regular pattern with copper that points to the closed – rhythm – and then by adding another “random overlay” in a dark color.
“We really wanted this building to showcase its use,” Bednar said. “I think it’s important to make sure people know that this is a bit different from a regular school.”
Outside it would also be designed to “honor and praise” the high school building “but also take us into the future,” said Bednar.
Spicher, who spoke on the subject of schooling at the devastated Howland Central Building, which had a “cool house,” expressed the excitement of the prospect of having a larger gathering place.
“This is just the beginning,” he said.
