The Bangor Daily News highlighted the Zillman Museum of Art in UMaine which recently received an initial grant for the UMaine Art Initiative. The grant will be used to create an art education program with the Cobscook Institute in Lubec, known for its bird programs. Until recently, the museum did not have any “bird-centered art” for the exhibition, but the perfectly timed donation of bird paintings, painted by the late biologist and artist from Maine, Walter Rich, changed that. Rich’s paintings were passed on to his friend’s great-granddaughter, Kendri Raymond, who kept Rich’s paintings in her closet for fifteen years, until recently when her daughter suggested she contact the Zillman Museum. The exhibition will be on display until September 3.
