Finland disappoints in round robin
This Finnish team didn’t give a great effort in Moncton. They scored two goals less than Slovakia and one more than Switzerland. His group often looked for offensive pressure and even strength. That’s not to say there aren’t players who have played well. Joakim Kemell (Predators) has been good in this tournament, and his most notable presence with equal strength.

USA top players stand out as they secure Group B
After a strong start to group play in Moncton, the USA finished group play with convincing wins against Switzerland and Finland. Their best players came back really well tonight. On the same subject : Improving to 3-0, Team USA Hockey’s Wyatt Kaiser ‘held the stage’ with a 7-0 win over winless Austria. Logan Cooley (Coyotes) was excellent and created a lot with his skating, skill and effort. Luke Hughes (Devils) had a great game, with a goal and assist, and making his usual impact in transition.
It was the work of Jimmy Snuggerud (Blues) that was the most impressive. His skating isn’t the best, but everything else in his game is NHL quality. He showed a lot of skill and offensive instincts, and his competitive level looked excellent. He won many battles and wanted in on occasions. Snuggerud has built on his big first half in Minnesota.

The Czechs are for real
The Czech Republic’s 10 points in the preliminary round were the most in either group and have positioned them well to play for a medal for the second year in a row (they finished fourth at the summer tournament in Edmonton) with a quarter-final showdown in the final against Switzerland than to have them as the big favourites. The Czechs haven’t won a World Youth medal in 18 years, but this team looks like a real threat. See the article : Yotes vs. Leafs 12-29-22. They have one of the best forwards in the tournament in Jiri Kulich (Sabres). They have two of the best defensemen in the tournament: David Jiricek (Blue Jackets) and Stanislav Svozil (Blue Jackets).
They have a candidate for the tournament’s manager of the tournament in Tomas Suchanek. And their secondary pieces: guys like David Spacek (Wild), Jakub Brabenec (Golden Knights), Jaroslav Chmelar (Rangers), Matyas Sapovaliv (Golden Knights) and Gabriel Szturc are doing exactly what they need to do. Canada saves its best for last
Canada’s suffocating New Year’s Eve performance against Sweden was how they were supposed to be in this tournament. The Swedes had a tough time with the skill of Canada’s front six, succumbing to the pressure, size and speed of their bottom six, and whenever it was their turn to play attack they struggled to play beyond, through or around the duration of The defense of Canada.
The only goal Canada conceded came in a five-minute penalty on a kneeing penalty by Zack Ostapchuk. I’m guessing they’ll keep those lines and pairings intact for the quarterfinals, including Adam Fantilli on the fourth line (neither Colton Dach nor Caedan Bankier are great skaters, so he gave that line some much-needed pace once they lost.
