On December 5, 2022, Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu welcomed First Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Kairat Umarov and the Kazakh delegation to Washington for the annual United States-Kazakhstan Enhanced Strategic Partnership Dialogue (ESPD). The US-Kazakhstan ESPD was established as an annual forum to discuss national and regional issues and advance priorities.
Building on the strength of 30 years of international relations, the US and Kazakhstani are discussing regional geopolitical issues, global expansion efforts, counter-terrorism and other security measures, the expansion of energy and trade development, climate change and the environment, education, and war. respect for human rights. The Kazakhstani side emphasized the need to establish normal trade relations between the two countries. Assistant Secretary Lu reaffirmed the unwavering support of the United States for Kazakhstan’s independence, regional integrity, and sovereignty.
First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Umarov emphasized the commitment of Kazakhstan to the implementation of the list of plans. The United States reiterated its strong support for the economic, political, and social reforms of Kazakhstan that will bring many benefits to the people of Kazakhstan.
Both leaders confirmed the importance of the Dialogue with the intention of holding the next ESPD in 2023. The two sides also discussed the importance of continuing high-level visits next year.
