DŻARTA – Twenty-four representatives of American universities and colleges established cooperation with willing Indonesian students in Surabaya on October 11 and Jakarta on October 13, starting the October series of EducationUSA fair organized by the US Embassy in Jakarta. Nine university representatives will recruit graduates during the second series of fairs in Malang on October 20 and Jakarta on October 22.

US Embassy in Jakarta Deputy Head of Mission Michael Kleine opened the Jakarta fair, noting that unlike many other countries, the US remained open to Indonesian students during the pandemic and the embassy issued visas and universities welcomed students to campus. He encouraged students to take “a valuable opportunity to study in another country, get to know a new culture and learn more about themselves and Indonesia.”

Nearly 700 students in Surabaya and Jakarta faced rush-hour traffic jams and October rains to talk to university officials along with representatives from the Indonesian Education Fund (LPDP), the Fulbright Commission (AMINEF) and representatives from the US Embassy. The fair also included IELTS sessions and application advice. It was the first personal show for the US Embassy in Jakarta since EducationUSA since February 2020.

The final fair will be held at the Park Hyatt Jakarta (Jl. Kebon Sirih nr. 17-19) on October 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. University stands include Arizona State University, Carnegie Mellon University, Colorado School of Mines, Indiana University in Bloomington, Michigan State University, Northeastern University, University of Colorado at Boulder, University of Missouri, and the University of Rhode Island. There will also be information sessions and representatives of LPDP and AMINEF scholarship programs. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit EducationUSA.state.gov.

The U.S. Embassy’s EducationUSA offices provide free counseling services to prospective international students and offer students resources and tools to help them navigate through the stages of their US studies: researching schools, identifying financial aid opportunities, completing applications, obtaining a student visa, and preparing for departure. There are over 4,700 accredited higher education institutions in the United States, and 6 Education USA Advisory Centers can help students narrow down their options, define priorities, and plan a college career. Almost 8,000 Indonesians are currently studying in the United States.
