US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking will travel to the region starting October 11 to support urgent UN negotiations with the Yemeni parties to extend and expand a ceasefire agreement. for the sake of Yemenis. The Houthis have an opportunity to support an expanded ceasefire agreement that would provide millions of Yemenis with immediate aid, including paying the salaries of much-needed government workers, opening roads to Taiz and across the country, more flights from Sana’a, and a path to an inclusive peace process led by Yemen, which includes Yemeni calls for justice, accountability, and addressing human rights violations and abuses. The ceasefire remains Yemen’s best chance for peace in years. The United States and the international community are ready to support an expanded ceasefire.
