On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Curaçao as you celebrate Curaçao Day. The long friendship between our two countries is rooted in our values and cultural ties. Our united support for the rule of law and democracy forms the basis for our cooperation to disrupt criminal networks within countries, allowing us to protect 142 metric tons of narcotics – valued at $ 2.1 billion dollars – from the damage caused to communities in Curacao and in the United States last year. Our cooperation extends to expanding economic opportunities by encouraging investment, by supporting Curacao entrepreneurs through our exchange programs, and by expanding our strategy together to create Curacao’s first English immersion school.
