NEW DELHI, Aug. 13 (Reuters) – The United States expressed concern in India that it was used earlier this year to export fuel made from Russian crude oil to New York via deep-sea transfers, a leading Indian central banker said on Saturday.
US sanctions against Russia for the February invasion of Ukraine prohibit the importation of Russian-derived energy products to the United States, including crude oil, refined fuels, distillates, coal and gas.
“You know there are sanctions against people who buy Russian oil, and we were told by the US Treasury Department,” Reserve Bank of India Vice Governor Michael Patra, an audience of government officials and finance and banking professionals told us.

Russia is traditionally India’s largest supplier of military equipment, and New Delhi has not condemned Moscow’s aggression against Ukraine, although it has called for an end to the violence.
