The US Embassy in the Republic of El Salvador is pleased to announce the arrival of professional diplomat Katherine Duffy Dueholm as Deputy Head of Mission, replacing Brendan O’Brien. Ms Dueholm will be Chargé d’Affaires a.i. until the arrival of an ambassador certified by the US Senate.

Prior to her three-year service in El Salvador, Ms. Dueholm served as director of Mexican affairs at the US Department of State. Previously, she was the Caribbean Director in 2018-2020 and the Director of the Legislative Office of the Department of State in 2016-2017. She also served as deputy head of mission in East Timor, including for over six months as chargé d’affaires. Its other overseas assignments include Botswana, Germany, Guyana and Brazil. In Washington, she served as Special Assistant to the then Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Deputy Director for the US-Chile Free Trade Agreement at the US Trade Representative Office. Prior to joining the Department of State, Mrs. Dueholm worked at the White House in a successful effort to enact the North American Free Trade Agreement.
