US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel will represent the United States at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial on August 6 and the Nagasaki Peace Memorial on August 9.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to attend the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Peace Memorial Ceremonies,” said Ambassador Emanuel. “My visit to Hiroshima in March 2022 with Prime Minister Kishida was deeply moving and I said at the time that my responsibilities as ambassador and as a citizen would not be complete until I also visited Nagasaki. It is incumbent on all of us to learn from history and pay respect to all those who lost their lives in World War II. I am proud to continue the tradition established by my predecessors of representing the United States of America at these important commemorations, and I look forward to working with Japan to advance our shared ideal of peace in this region and around the world .”
