Morgan opened the scoring for the United States in the 16th minute with a heel pass from Mallory Pugh past Haitian guard Lara Larco. Morgan’s second goal came to the head in 23 minutes.

Winning Monday at the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey, Mexico, the USWNT won the defensive battle against the Haitian elites and secured the first game in the opening game in the top North America and Central and Caribbean.

Roselord Borgella was able to give Haiti a goal from the penalty spot after Morgan’s first two goals, but missed and was later given a yellow card for an injury before the half.

The United States seemed to score their own goal in the 78th, but Megan Rapinoe dominated. Purce scored his fourth international goal in the 84th.

America coach Vlatko Andonovski praised Morgan and said he was happy with the result, although there are things that need to be improved before America and Jamaica meet on Thursday.

“On the other hand, we gave a lot of chances, gave a kick penalty. That’s something we have to do well and put together a few things for the next game,” Andonovski said.

Eight teams are divided into two divisions for the W Championship. The top two fish in each category are eligible for the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which is hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The third stage is completed with each group up to 10 teams in between.

Winning the W Championship also gives you a chance at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Haiti has never qualified for a World Cup or an Olympics. In addition to the United States and Haiti, the group includes Jamaica and Mexico.
