Ukraine continues to face the brutality highlighted once again this week by an attack that hit a shopping mall packed with civilians. They continue to fight for their country, and the United States continues to support them and their just cause. As the United States prepares to commemorate our independence, we remain committed to the independence, security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Based on the delegation of authority from the President, I authorize the withdrawal of our fourteenth weapons and equipment from the US Department of Defense inventory for the self-defense of Ukraine from August 2021 for up to $50 million. This authorization, together with the Department of Defense’s parallel announcement of $770 million in funding for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, will bring total US military aid to Ukraine to more than $6.92 billion since Russia launched its brutal, unprovoked, full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24. . .
