We didn’t need an excuse to drink at a bar and watch sports, but now we definitely have one. For the first time in years, the New York Giants are … good?

The G-Men are arguably the NFL’s biggest surprise after a 5-1 start under new coach Brian Daboll. With wins over the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens, a team that hasn’t made the postseason since 2016 is in serious playoff contention.

So we’ll definitely be watching. But where? There is no better place to watch football than in a sports bar surrounded by televisions, friends, booze and lots of food. And it should come as no surprise that New Jersey is full of great sports bars.

Here are the 10 best sports bars to watch the Giants:

Ribs from Obal’s Inn in Bloomfield. (Jeremy Schneider | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com)

Obal’s Inn, Bloomfield

COVID-19 nearly wiped out this Essex county, but the community rallied around the Broad Street dive bar, and thankfully, it’s still open and serving up some of the best ribs in the state. The back room has plenty of TVs, pool and shuffleboard for halftime entertainment. They have a strong beer selection on tap. But don’t overthink it, they have the crispest Yuengling you’ll find this side of the Hudson. Obal’s won’t be serving its glorified ribs on the weekend, but the wings, burgers, and bagel pies will make up for it.

A good season for the Giants is a miracle, so why not celebrate at the Miracle Sports Pub? Part of it was for the atmosphere and part for the sleaze — including breakfast options like breakfast sandwiches with eggs and a pork roll.

Zagursky’s Bar & Grill, Whippany

It doesn’t look like much, Zagursky is just an unassuming brown building with a vintage sign above the door. The place has been open for more than 70 years and you can feel that history as soon as you walk in.
