For the 11th consecutive year, Ohio University’s Master of Sports Administration program has been named the world’s top two postgraduate sports management degrees for 2022 by SportBusiness, an international sports business intelligence service.

Since the publication’s inception in 2012, the Master of Sports Administration has ranked in the top two programs in the world, having ranked first in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021.

“We are very proud of our performance in SportBusiness’ global ranking of Masters of Sports Administration. In the 11 years they have conducted the survey, we have been fortunate enough to finish as the top-ranked program eight times, never out of the two best,” said Matthew Cacciato, Executive Director of the AECOM Center for Sports Administration and Graduate Director of the Masters of Sports Administration Program. “Most importantly, our students, faculty, alumni and partners AECOM Center for Sports Administration remain confident that we maintain the reputation we have earned as the first program established in 1966. We look forward to learning from this year’s survey results and working hard to maintain our place as the premier program in the world.”

Founded in 1966, OHIO’s Master of Sports Administration degree is the oldest sports management degree in the world and prepares students for multiple roles in the sports industry. Students complete a two-year full-time program that is combined with an MBA program housed in the College of Business.

OHIO Master of Sports Administration students participate extensively in experiential opportunities with OHIO’s athletics department, as well as with a variety of outside sports organizations, often provided by alumni and friends of the program. Capabilities span the entire sports ecosystem and include teams, leagues, media data insights/analysis, facilities and live events at all levels.

The College of Business also offers students opportunities to expand their knowledge and experience in sports administration through the Bachelor of Sports Management program, an online Master of Athletic Administration, as well as professional development through the AECOM Center for Sports Administration education, which offers the first – professional certification for sports gambling. The College of Business’ Department of Sports Administration also offers the Professional Master of Sports Administration (PMSA) online to experienced professionals around the country currently working in the sports industry, such as Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Tim Mayza, who earned his Professional Master of Sports Administration last year.

Since the program began over 55 years ago, nearly 2,000 students have graduated from the Master of Sports Administration program and have secured sports administration roles across the country.

The program prefers to keep class sizes smaller to ensure a manageable ratio between faculty and student. There are 10 full-time faculties in the programme. The cohort for the coming academic year is 35. The program usually sees up to 160 applicants.

The SportBusiness rankings are based on surveys conducted by course leaders and alumni of the programs.
