It’s about time the organization offered game officials proper pay and fostered an environment where they weren’t scolded.

With the umpire shortage in all sports reaching a tipping point, when is the Maine Directors Association going to stop sitting on their hands?

After decades of intimidating umpiring organizations, the MPA has positioned Maine high school sports for failure. Lack of transparency and miscommunication on the part of MPA leaders have created a deep divide between official Maine organizations and schools.

What the MPA has called negotiations have been nothing more than take-it-or-leave-it propositions. We need to attract newer and younger officials now! This can only be done by offering reasonable compensation and a safe space to officiate.

Let the MPA know that the old way of doing business won’t hold up in today’s environment.
