Play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson left the room late in the first half of Fox’s telecast of the game between Oklahoma and Nebraska on Saturday afternoon after being “under the weather.”

Johnson called the second-to-last play of the first half before going silent. Analyst Joel Klatt took over play-by-play responsibilities for the final play of the second quarter and led the halftime broadcast.

After the Fox Sports show at halftime, Klatt was the first to speak, saying Johnson needed to leave because he was under the “weather.” Shortly after making that statement, Brady Quinn joined the broadcast, assuming the role of analyst.

At that point, Klatt issued a slightly longer explanation, but did not reveal anything specific about Johnson’s illness.

“Gus is doing well. He’s under the weather,” he said early in the second half. “He’ll be out here in the second half. We’ll take the rest with Brady [Quinn] and Jenny [Taft] on the sidelines. Coach Meyer will join us sometime. We will continue this conversation about the great rivalry between these two programs.”

Klatt shared an update on Johnson’s condition Saturday evening, tweeting in part, “Gus is doing great and already looking forward to next week!! Can’t wait to have him back.”

Many individuals took to social media following the news of Johnson’s exit from the room to wish him well.
