What an exciting Week 1 the NFL had, with plenty of games dropped and plenty of feats accomplished in the opening week of the regular season. Seven games were tied or tied in the final two minutes of regulation and the evening was tied, the third deadlock in Week 1 since overtime was instituted in 1974 (three of which have occurred in the last five seasons).

The NFC East went undefeated in Sunday afternoon’s slate, before the Cowboys fell in the night game and left the NFC West winless. The AFC South has two teams tied for first place without a win or a loss, but the result. The New York Giants are over .500 for the first time since the 2016 season and are tied for first place in the NFC North with the Chicago Bears.

Week 1 of the NFL season featured plenty of storylines, and plenty of overreaction. Here are the best reactions to each game during the opening week of the year, and whether these stories are overreactions or reality.

Dak Prescott’s injury destroys their NFC East repeat

Overreaction or reality: reality This may interest you : Top 100 video games of all time ranked.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced that Dak Prescott will undergo surgery on his throwing hand and miss a few weeks since Sunday night’s fourth quarter loss to the Bucs. This Dallas offense was built around Prescott and he’s been out for a while now. Dallas’ schedule doesn’t get any easier with the Bengals next week, the Rams in Week 5 and the Eagles in Week 6 – the latter two on the road.

The Cowboys started the week with two quarterbacks on the practice squad lined up to replace Prescott. They’re already replacing three offensive linemen and two wide receivers on an anemic offense that put up just three points Sunday night — their lowest in a regular season game since 1989.

The Cowboys needed a healthy Prescott to win the NFC East. The best quarterback in the division has been out for as many weeks, setting the stage for another new winner in the division.

The Cowboys aren’t making the playoffs with this offense

Overreaction or reality: reality See the article : How to track and rate your games using Backlogd.

What a disaster it was for the Cowboys in Week 1. Dallas returned three offensive linemen and two of its four wide receivers from last season, with Dak Prescott leaving CeeDee Lamb and Dalton Schultz with pressure on their faces all night.

Lamb struggled in his first game as the No. 1 receiver, throwing 11 times and making just two catches. Prescott went 14-of-29 for 134 yards with an interception and Dallas got the three points. The Cowboys went 3-for-15 on third down and had just 71 yards rushing in an offense that looked out of sorts and lost.

At the end of the day, Jerry Jones didn’t fix the holes in his offense — whether it was in the draft or overpaying his star players, the Cowboys didn’t have enough salary to improve some tight end areas. . The Cowboys also had 10 penalties for 73 yards.

There are too many holes that need to be addressed. Prescott — on top of that — will miss a lot of time, so 2022 could be a washout for Dallas.

Carson Wentz is the best Commanders QB since Kirk Cousins

Overreaction or reality: reality On the same subject : 8 beautiful video games with complex fantasy worlds.

Carson Wentz had an interesting debut for the Commanders, throwing for 313 yards and four touchdowns in Washington’s fourth quarter comeback against the Jaguars. He also threw two interceptions, including a poor throw to Travon Walker that gave the Jaguars the ball at the Washington 11 with the Commanders trailing by one early in the fourth quarter.

Wentz straightened himself out and threw touchdown passes of 49 yards to Terry McLaurin and 24 yards to Jahan Dotson to give Washington the win. He is the first quarterback to throw four touchdowns in a season for the Commanders since Billy Kilmer in 1975 and the first quarterback to throw four touchdowns in a game since Kirk Cousins in 2015.

The Commanders haven’t had great QB play since Cousins, with 10 players starting a game since he left in 2017. The proof is in the milk Wentz may be the answer in Washington.

The 49ers should turn to Jimmy Garoppolo if Trey Lance continues to struggle

Overreaction or Reality: Overreaction

Trey Lance wasn’t great in the 49ers’ loss to the Bears, completing 13 of 28 passes for 161 yards in a 19-10 setback. He had 13 carries for 54 yards, but a 50.3 passer rating and two touchdowns on 11 possessions were similar to the 49ers under Kyle Shanahan. Lance has surpassed 60% completion rate just once in his three starts.

San Francisco shouldn’t rush Jimmy Garoppolo just yet. The 49ers played in strange, rainy conditions in Chicago that could have affected any offense and had 12 penalties for 99 yards in the loss. Let’s see a little more from Lance before sending him to the bench, though Shanahan is 8-29 when Garoppolo isn’t his starting quarterback.

There will be another receiving triple crown winner — and it’s Justin Jefferson

Overreaction or Reality: Overreaction

What more needs to be said about Justin Jefferson’s dominance. Jefferson finished with nine catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings’ dominant win over the Packers, with six catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. Jefferson had more yards than any player in the league in Week 1 after the first 30 minutes of his game.

Cooper Kupp will have a lot to say about this one with the numbers he puts up, but Jefferson can accomplish the feat. Jefferson is on pace for 3,128 receiving yards after all, more than he had in his first two seasons in the league (most in the NFL).

Jefferson has as many 150-yard games in a Vikings uniform as Hall of Famer Cris Carter, and has only played in 34 career games. A huge 2022 season could be saved with a place in history among the all-time great receivers.

A.J. Brown is the Eagles’ best wide receiver since Terrell Owens

Overreaction or reality: reality

A.J. Brown had the Lions’ second-leading score in the Eagles’ win over the Lions, finishing with 10 catches for 155 yards. Not only was Brown the second-leading receiving yardage on Sunday’s game in Week 1, his 155 receiving yards were the most for any non-Eagles debutant in franchise history.

Brown is the 10th Eagles player since 1975 with 10 catches and 150 receptions in a game — and the first player in franchise history to accomplish the feat before Week 10. He finished with 128 yards receiving in the first half, as Brown got Jalen. Hurts on the court after throwing five innings to start the game.

The Eagles had DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins and Zach Pascal a catch, but managed 38 points and 455 yards in the win. It’s the Terrell Owens-type impact Brown delivered in Week 1. Brown is a talent of a player.

Travis Kelce will make the Chiefs forget about Tyreek Hill

Overreaction or reality: reality

Travis Kelce is still the best tight end in football, showing how he can get open without Tyreek Hill on the outside or in the slot to complement him. He finished with eight catches for 121 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs’ win over the Cardinals, the 30th 100-yard game of his future Hall of Fame career.

Finding ways to get open over the middle, Kelce loosened the seam of several players throughout the game. Patrick Mahomes had plenty of open receivers throughout the day, finding his tight ends 10 times for 132 yards and two scores.

Four different Chiefs players caught a touchdown pass and nine caught a pass overall. The Chiefs are deeper without Hill as a result of allocating that extra money they would have paid to one of the best players in franchise history.

Saquon Barkley is a top-five running back

Overreaction or Reality: Overreaction

A healthy Saquon Barkley in Brian Daboll’s offensive system is something to behold. The running back, who was last in the NFL in yards per carry (minimum 150 carries) the last two seasons, had 164 yards rushing and a touchdown and 194 yards in the Giants’ 21-20 win over the Titans.

Barkley led the NFL in rushing Sunday afternoon and his 9.1 yards per carry was second in the league. He also led the NFL in rushing yards, showing signs of a 2,000-yard rusher in 2018.

When Barkley is healthy, he’s definitely a top-five player in the league. He has to prove that he can be on the field.

Joe Burrow won’t last the season with this Bengals offensive line

Overreaction or reality: reality

New offensive line, same problems for Joe Burrow — he was sacked seven times in Sunday’s overtime loss against the Steelers. Counting the Super Bowl, Burrow has been sacked 14 times in the last two games (by far the most in the NFL). Burrow was sacked 70 times last season and 84 times over his last 21 games — an average of four times per game.

The sacks hurt Burrow, who had four interceptions and one fumble in the loss (four of which came in the first half). This is the second time in three seasons that Burrow has suffered a significant injury and ended the Bengals’ hopes of a Super Bowl.

Cincinnati needs to address its offensive line issues. There is too much talent for Burrow to play that much.

Khalil Mack will have 15 sacks this season

Overreaction or reality: reality

Khalil Mack dominated the Raiders’ offensive line in his Chargers debut, finishing with three sacks and four quarterback hits in a dominant pass rush with Joey Bosa. Bosa had 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble in the win, so he should be considered as well.

Mack hasn’t had a double-digit sack season since 2018 and a 15-yard season since 2015, but he’s never had a force like Bosa lined up with him in the same defense. By releasing Robert Quinn last year, Bosa will do the same with Mack in 2022.

Mack has just 12 sacks in his last 16 games. With Bosa playing in the same defense, that mark is very achievable.

Cordarrelle Patterson will rush for 1,000 yards

Overreaction or reality: reality

Cordarrelle Patterson has gotten off to a great start in an offense that lacks a linebacker, not even an outside linebacker in Kyle Pitts and Drake London. He finished with 22 carries for 120 yards and a touchdown against a Saints defense that allowed the fewest yards per attempt.

The 31-year-old Patterson is finally being used properly in Arthur Smith’s offense and led 20-plus carries in a game for the first time in his career. He is a player with the ball in his hands and needs only 54.9 yards per game on the season to reach the mark.

With the volume of carries Patterson is getting, a 1,000-yard rush seems very attainable.

Aaron Rodgers could use a No. 1 wide receiver

Overreaction or reality: reality

Davante Adams had 141 receiving yards in his debut with the Raiders, more receiving yards (120) than any Packers receiver Sunday. The Packers’ leading pass catcher A.J. Dillon (five catches, 46 yards) Rodgers finished with just 195 yards with one interception.

Someone has to step up and be the No. 1 wide receiver, or the Packers will take a big drop in 2021. Green Bay was blown out in Week 1 last year, but Adams was on that list. He’s in Vegas now.

The Browns are going over .500 with Jacoby Brissett at QB

Overreaction or reality: reality

Cleveland managed to beat Carolina, but the Browns were very impressive running the football in the win. Nick Chubb had 141 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Kareem Hunt had two touchdowns (one run, one catch). The Browns finished with 217 yards and 5.6 yards per carry. The offense held the ball for 38 minutes.

This is the formula the Browns need to win games until Deshaun Watson returns, along with a defense that finished with four sacks (led by Myles Garrett with two sacks and a forced fumble). Running the ball and playing dominant defense is how Cleveland has won games for 11 weeks. Kevin Stefanski knows that shot well.

The Colts are going to run away with the AFC South

Overreaction or reality: reality

Indianapolis is tied in the AFC South after a week – with intent to speak. The Colts blew a 17-point lead to tie the Texans in the opener (they split the division lead), a moral victory considering Indianapolis was headed for an embarrassing loss entering the fourth quarter.

Houston is still a young team, so don’t expect the Texans to be in the mix all year. The Jaguars are a better team with Doug Pederson, but they find ways to outdo themselves and are changing the culture of the franchise. The Titans had an improbable loss at home against the Giants, going 3-for-11 in the third against a defense that lacked its two best passes.

With Derrick Henry holding less than 100 yards and no rushing touchdowns in his last few regular season games, the Titans offense needs to show up every week without a player.

Indianapolis avoided a road loss in a division game. Despite the draw, it was a strong finish for the Colts, who are clearly the best team in this poor division.

Tyreek Hill is going to make Tua Tagovailoa a Pro Bowl QB

Overreaction or Reality: Overreaction

Tyreek Hill is a major asset for Tua Tagovailo, and that was evident as the Dolphins quarterback finished 23 for 33 for 270 yards and a touchdown (104.4 passer rating) in a convincing win over New England. While Hill had an impressive debut (eight catches, 94 yards), Jaylen Waddle had four catches for 69 yards and a score.

Tagovailoa had no trouble finding pass catchers, throwing completions to nine different receivers on the afternoon. He also threw 13 passes over 10 yards as the Dolphins offense had a more vertical passing game than in years past.

Tagovailoa is a winning quarterback and played very well in his debut under Mike McDaniel. There are too many good quarterbacks in the AFC to think about the Pro Bowl right now.

Lamar Jackson will throw for 35+ touchdowns this year

Overreaction or reality: reality

The Ravens had just 63 yards, the fewest in a game since Lamar Jackson started for them. They had just 13 first downs, but Jackson finished 17 of 30 for 213 yards and three touchdowns in the 15-point victory. Jackson is a very good Weekend No. 1 quarterback, but under an offense that’s overmatched in the pocket and tailored to his strengths.

Even when the Ravens weren’t controlling the ball on the ground, Jackson was forced to use his arm to win the game. Devin Duvernay found two touchdowns and Rashod Bateman a deep score (Bateman plays Marquise Brown). This offense is set for Jackson to put up touchdown numbers similar to the league-high 36 he threw in 2019 (when he won the MVP).

Baltimore’s offense will be better, especially with J.K. Dobbins returns, which may take away some of the passing touches. However, there are plenty of red-zone targets and big-play threats for Jackson to put up a lot of touches in this offense.

Prescott ranked among the NFL’s top quarterbacks, coming in at No. 6 on the list with an overall rating of 89. That put him ahead of Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (88) and behind Cincinnati Bengals signal caller Joe Burrow. (90).
