(9:32): The Buccaneers dominated the Cowboys in the first half but have only three field goals to show for their efforts. Parsons, who was one of the best players in the league as a rookie in 2021, has two sacks and three tackles for the Cowboys. We talk all the time about the greatness of Aaron Donald, but it could be Parsons who wins Defensive Player of the Year.
(9:08): Brady connected with Julio Jones for the first time, a fast route. He then connected with Jones again on a 48-yard pass to put the Buccaneers in scoring position late in the second half. Brady’s receiving crop of Jones, Godwin and Evans should be considered one of the league’s top three targets.
(8:44): If there was any doubt about whether Tom Brady was in the opening game of the season, he erased them. The veteran QB led the Buccaneers to a field goal on his first attempt; Brady hit Chris Godwin on a wide receiver screen for a first down and then threw a bullet at Mike Evans to put the Buccaneers in scoring range. Even at 45, Brady can still throw it. Your decision to retire looks good on a unit basis. And his wife, Gisele Bündchen, tweeted her approval.

(6:34): How scary is it to the rest of the NFL that the Chiefs are still winning on plays they created for Tyreek Hill, but without Tyreek Hill on the roster? That touchdown — Mahomes’ fifth, by the way — for Mecole Hardman looks like a basic speed mismatch play they made at the goal line last year.
(6:21): Why aren’t we talking more about the fact that Justin Reid hit an extra point and then started kicking the end zone for a touchback? Kicking is incredibly difficult, and while all athletes are naturally gifted in some way, this is a very different skill set. Have you ever walked up to a soccer ball and tried to blow it up as hard as you could? Most of the time, you end up looking like Charlie Brown.
(7:05): That’s why you hire Brian Daboll as your head coach – relevant in times of decline, despite a tattered roster. Saquon Barkley with a revival, Kadarius Toney catching the ball in space. This is, despite the 13 points on the scoreboard, a mere fever dream for Giants fans a year ago, with Jason Garrett calling the shots.
(5:11 pm): Seeing a lot of tweets from the “same old giants” this afternoon. I have to be careful: it’s going to be bad for half a season. It’s a rebuild without a disassembly. But I came out of boot camp really at the top of this team as they tried to combine the best principles of the Chiefs, Ravens and Bills offices. I think it’s a forward-looking operation. In the meantime, enjoy watching Daniel Jones. He’s playing for his future in New York right now.
(4:50 pm): The expression on Aaron Rodgers’ face said it all. Rookie wide receiver Christian Watson beat Patrick Peterson and was wide open for what looked like an easy touchdown, but the ball passed right through Watson’s hands and the Packers were forced to punt. Rodgers expressed frustration with rookie wide receivers during preseason, and it’s been a frustrating game for Rodgers and the Packer offense with no points and three minutes left in time – what was normally money in the bank with Davante Adams is now traded.

The sophomore quarterback out of Stanford has a couple of touchdowns for O.J. Howard, who was a late signing to the team after he didn’t make the final roster with the Bills. Baby steps obviously for the Jets, but first-round pick Garrett Wilson has had one of the plays of the day so far, putting them within inches of first down after a desperate pass from Joe Flacco. He broke a tackle, froze on a dime, and hit a Ravens defender. Robert Saleh is being booed for not trying to convert. It’s a fair criticism of Jets fans. You can’t put John Harbaugh off the field. You’ll have to throw a surprise uppercut at some point and keep Lamar Jackson off the field.
